Austin Area Arts Center members want people to take a walk through the country today.
The AAAC began its “Walk in the Country,” exhibit Wednesday. More than 20 local artists, all of whom are AAAC members, are featured at the arts center’s Oak Park Mall location.
“We have about everything under the sun that you could imagine right now,” said Barb Cafourek, one of the AAAC board members.
There’s all kinds of artwork from painting and acrylics to copper work and jewelry, pencil drawings to fused glass and beautiful photography. All of the artwork centers around nature, on the beauty and majesty of the plants, animals, forests and mountains across the land.
Cafourek has several of her pieces available for sale, including watercolor paintings she’s done of various landscapes, such as one of the St. Croix river. All pieces on display at the exhibit are for sale, ranging anywhere from $1 to $500, depending on the piece and the artist.
This exhibit is the beginning of a concerted push by the AAAC to raise public awareness, according to Cafourek. The AAAC is planning more exhibits, more classes and more opportunities for local artists to showcase their skills.
“People need to know that we have some very talented artists in this area,” Cafourek said. “Not just in painting but in a lot of different mediums. We just want to make sure we keep the public aware.”
