Business is back to normal after Kwik Trip on Fourth Street NW endured a 21-gallon gasoline spill Wednesday afternoon.

Fire Chief Mickey Healey said the fire department was dispatched to the convenience store after one of the pumps overflowed, spilling 21 gallons of gasoline. A patron had apparently been pumping gas when the pump failed to shut off.

“We had a considerable amount of gasoline that was spilled across the lot and in the sanitary sewer system,” Healey said.

Firefighters aided with initial clean-up efforts by laying down a material that soaked up the liquid. Kwik Trip then contracted a clean-up crew to clean the rest of the spill from the lot and the sewer system.

Kwik Trip Manager Becky Waller said Thursday morning that the clean-up is complete and everything is back to normal at the store.

Waller was unable to comment on how the spill may have affected business Wednesday afternoon.
