William Monkemeier, 63, of Long Beach, Calif., died Feb. 18 in his home in Long Beach of cancer.

William Monkemeier was born May, 17, 1947, to Frances Miller and Harold Monkemeier. Dec. 3, 1966, he was united in marriage with Susane Heimer in Nashau, Iowa. He worked as a heavy equipment owner and operator.

Survivors include his wife, Susan (Heimer); sister, Joanne Van Nyhuis; son, Chad (Monica) Monkemeier; daughter, Samantha Monkemeier, grandsons, Cody and Austin; grandaughter, Savannah; one niece and three nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janice Lightly; brother-in-law, Paul Lightly; nephew, Andy Lightly.

A memorial service, visitation will take place in Austin at a later date.
