The Blooming Prairie girls basketball did what it could to stop United South Central from winning its 10th straight game, but the Awesome Blossoms bowed out 52-36 on the road Friday.
The Awesome Blossoms (9-10 overall, 7-5 Gopher) led 18-17 at the half and they were in the game until USC (15-5 overall) hit three second half threes to get BP out of its zone defense.
“They shot us out of our zone and then they exposed our lack of size,” BP head coach John Worke said. “We played them about as good as anyone for thirty minutes.”
BP scoring: Janelle Morem, 9; Erica Manske, 9; Kelli Naatz, 6; Tricia DeBoer, 4; Tayla Jones, 4; Whitney Burt, 2; Julia Manges, 2; field goals: 25 percent (14-for-55); free throws: 67 percent (6-for-9); rebounds: 34 (Naatz, 10)
