ST. PAUL, Minn. — A House panel considers a proposal to block consumers from suing fast-food chains and other food companies for health problems.
The Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act — also known as the “cheeseburger bill” — is up before the House Civil Law Committee on Monday.
Republican Rep. Dean Urdahl of Grove City has been pushing the legislation since 2004.
His bill would limit the food industry’s liability for weight gain, obesity and health problems caused by long-term consumption of fattening foods and non-alcoholic drinks such as soda.
