Mayo knocks off Austin boys

The Austin boys basketball team lost 57-47 at Rochester Mayo (6-11 overall, 3-8 Big Nine) on the road Friday.
The Packers (10-9 overall, 8-5 Big Nine) led 21-20 at the half, but they allowed a 7-0 run to fall behind 42-33 in the second half.
“We just couldn’t recover from that,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said. “Mayo played extremely well and it wasn’t so much us as it was them playing well.”
Austin pulled to within 44-39 when it missed two free throws and Mayo hit a three to go back up 47-39.
Nate Penz hit five threes as he led Mayo with 15 points.
