An Austin couple had to go through one more test before their Saturday wedding date.

On Thursday morning, the couple’s truck and the garage it was parked next to caught fire.

Firefighters were called to 1401 10th Ave. NW to find a Ford F150 belonging to Tyler Fett on fire, as well as the front of the garage it was parked in front of. The garage is part of the home owned by Fett’s fiancee, Channi Korfhage.

“(Channi) drove the truck to work and back, then two hours later it randomly started on fire,” Fett said.

Fett said a roommate of Korfhage noticed the fire and alerted Fett.

“There was smoke coming out of the truck and then there was a loud pop and flames were coming out of the grill,” Fett said. “It really started to get bad at that point.”

The cause of the fire is unknown, and Austin Fire Chief Mickey Healey said the fire spread to the garage from the truck. Luckily the garage door was down, so the fire stayed primarily on the outside of the front garage.

However, there was significant smoke damage inside.

“I would guess that smoke damage will probably be the cause of most of the loss,” Healey said.

The couple is getting married Saturday, and had items belonging to Fett moved into the garage the Saturday before.

“We moved all of my stuff in the garage so we didn’t have to after the wedding,” Fett said.

Total damage to the structure is unknown.

Nobody was injured.
