Donald Wayne Reed, 85, of Austin, died at his home Sunday evening, Feb. 20.
He was born May 12, 1925, in Oslo, Minn., to George and Alma (Edgar) Reed. He grew up in the Oslo and Dexter area where he attended school. He served in the Army and after World War II was employed by Hormel Foods Corp. He married Arlene Johnson on Dec. 18, 1954, in Austin. After 40 years with Hormel, Don retired in 1989. Arlene died April 22, 1995. Don drove cars for Kuehn Motors. He loved spending time with his family and his dogs. He also liked to watch wrestling, go for rides and check out the used car lots.
Survivors include daughters, Nancy Semmann (Wayne Whalen) of Austin, Jean (Paul) Anderson of Blooming Prairie; son, Mark Reed of Red Wing; two grandchildren, Kristin and Tyler; great-grandchild, Kaylee; sister, Lorna Sturch of Palmdale, Calif., nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Raymond; two sisters, Lucille and Olive.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
