The Lyle/Pacelli girls basketball team held off Mabel/Canton (7-16 overall, 6-12 SEC) 54-52 in Pacelli Gym Friday.

The Athletics (16-7 overall, 13-5 SEC) led by five when M/C hit a late three to close the gap to two.

L/P seventh grader Courtney Walter hit five threes and scored 16 points in the win.

L/P’s next game will be its Section 1A tournament game at Janesville/Waldorf/Pemberton next Friday at 7 p.m. L/P head coach Brad Walter is glad his team, which has played six games in eight days, will have a chance to rest up.

“It seemed like we were a little wore out tonight and it’ll be good to get some rest,” he said.
