Alfred W. Puettmann, 78

Alfred W. Puettmann, 78, of Austin, died Monday, Feb. 21, at Austin Medical Center.

He was born December 26, 1932, in Stacyville, Iowa, to Hubert and Laura (Kramer) Puettmann. He grew up in Stacyville and attended Visitation Catholic School. On August 31, 1957, he married Patricia Diggins in Osage, Iowa. The couple settled in Austin where Alfred worked for Armstrong Trucking. They moved to Fullerton, Calif. where he worked for Hormel Corporation. He later moved to Lucky Stores and retired as a Teamster truck driver after 23 years with the company. Patricia passed away in 1992. Alfred was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, reading and playing poker. He could often be found watching CNN, Fox News and loved discussing current events and politics.

Survivors include his two daughters, Lisa (Gary) Hawton of Las Vegas, Lynn Spainhower of Austin; grandchildren, Christopher and Mitchell Spainhower of Austin, Diane Fallan and Johnathan Hayter of Costa Mesa, Calif., Petty Officer Daniel Hawton of Pensacola, Fla., Kimberly Hawton of Frisco, Texas; great-grandchildren, Christian Fallan and Makayla Hayter of Costa Mesa, Calif.; brother, Wilbur (Mary) Puettmann of Stacyville; sisters, Bernice Valley of Altoona, Iowa, Ramona Saurer of Northville, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Laura; wife, Patricia; daughter, Lori; sister Eileen; grandson, Jeffrey.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. rosary Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91. Casket bearers will be Christopher Spainhower, Mitchell Spainhower, Johnathan Hayter, Daniel Hawton, Steve Huffman and Ron Puettmann.
