The Hayfield boys basketball team stepped up their defense in a 54-31 win over No. 9 ranked Byron (7-2 overall) in Hayfield Friday.

The Vikings (7-2 overall) held the Bears scoreless for six-minute stretch in the second half that saw Hayfield score 12 straight points to take a 38-20 lead with 10 minutes left in the game.

“Our defense was helping really well and our offense was very patient,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “I can’t say how pleased I was with the way we shared the ball. They didn’t care who scored and we got a lot of lay-ups after long possessions.”

Tyler Krekling dished out seven assists for the Hayfield.
