Free flu shots will be available at Sterling in Austin on Thursday, Jan. 20 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will be available while quantities last. Appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled by calling Sterling at 507-433-4586.

Recent reports indicate that seasonal influenza is on the rise as many have been ‘hit’ with the illness after spending time with family over the holidays. The flu often persists through March and is expected to strike again in mid February. It’s not too late to protect yourself. Sterling is giving patients throughout southern Minnesota the opportunity to get free flu shots at many of its stores.

“Many patients believe they have to get flu shots in October or November and after that, it’s too late. In fact, you can get flu shots up through March to protect yourself. And, doing so can help keep you healthier and avoid all that comes along with the flu,” said Tim Gallagher, Chief Operating Officer for Austin based Astrup Drug, parent company to Sterling.

When asked why Sterling is giving flu shots away, Mr. Gallagher responded. “We know there are many people without jobs, insurance, or in other less- than-ideal situations which may be keeping them from getting their vaccination. We’d like to give folks an opportunity to protect themselves.”
