The Riverland women’s basketball team hit eight threes at Minnesota West Saturday, but its one of the long balls they missed that cost them in an 84-81 loss on the road.

Krissy Schemmel, who scored 16 points and was five-for-nine on threes, missed a trey near the end of the game that would’ve tied it up.

Riverland (10-5 overall, 0-1 MCAC South) had led by as many as 11 in the second half, but West guard Sam Lynn scored 19 of her 30 points in the second half to trigger a rally.

“She was either scoring or getting to the line throughout the second half,” RCC head coach Suzy Hebrink said. “West is very good and it’s a tough place to win.”

The Blue Devils trailed 23-11 early in the game, but Schemmel hit four of her five threes in the first half to get her squad back in it.
