BANCROFT — A pickup may have hit a Union Pacific Railroad train on a gravel road about two miles north of Albert Lea.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether the truck indeed hit the side of the train. It took some time for the train to stop.
The collision happened near 3:20 p.m. on the tracks on 245th Street in Bancroft Township. The collision is on the east side of the train.
Initial reports indicate the man driving a black Dodge Dakota was unharmed but was trapped inside. Authorities reportedly used an extricator to pull him out.
He was not taken away in an ambulance. A Freeborn County sheriff’s deputy took him home.
Albert Lea had nearly whiteout conditions during the time of the accident.
