The Lyle/Pacelli girls basketball team got a boost from its bench as it hung on to beat Hope Lutheran (5-3 overall, 4-3 SEC) 61-57 on the road Friday.

The Athletics (8-4 overall, 8-2 SEC) led by eight late in the game, but with their top guards fouled out, the last few minutes were hectic.

“We had a couple of turnovers and basically we were just trying to hold the ball and let the clock run out,” L/P head coach Brad Walter said.

Hope Lutheran got to within two, but Nyabang Diang, who had 10 points and 14 rebounds, scored to push the lead back up to four late in the game.

Freshman Maggie Lewison, who had 11 points and seven rebounds, and eighth grader Madison Truckenmiller, who had 11 points and eight rebounds, stepped up inside for L/P. Seventh grader Courtney Walter held down the point guard spot as she scored nine.

“We got some big help off our bench and Courtney did a good job with a lot of pressure on her,” Walter said.

L/P scoring: Ann Rysavy, 14; Maggie Lewison, 11; Madison Truckenmiller, 11; Nyabang Diang, 10; Courtney Walter, 9; Dani Felten, 4; Lauren Rieker, 2; free throws: 45 percent (10-for-22)
