County takes on extra work in Udolpho

The county assessor’s office will likely soon have to make time for Udolpho Township.
With the township’s assessor currently not licensed, the county assessor’s office will have to step in and complete the assessments for the township.
The townships are required to complete and submit their appraisals to Assessor Rich Peterson’s office by Jan. 18. Udolpho Township is likely to miss that mark. If the appraisals aren’t completed, Peterson will have to assign his staff to complete the work. The costs would be charged back to Udolpho Township.
“I don’t have any choice. I will have to make the staff available,” Peterson told the county board Tuesday.
Udolpho township officials are scheduled to meet about the issue Jan. 19.
The county assessor’s office performs all the assessments for the county, and the office contracts with the city of Austin and all the small cities in the county. Townships officials are required to hire their own assessor.
Udolpho’s assessor’s license is not current. Peterson reported Udolpho’s assessor filed the licensing forms too late and didn’t include all the required information.
