Bruins fall to Express in shootout, 3-2

Friday night’s match-up between the Austin Bruins and Owatonna Express needed a little extra and then some before a cap could be put on 2010.

The teams needed overtime and a shootout before the Express were able to claim the win, 3-2 at Riverside Arena.

The overtime came after the Bruins were able to rally back to erase a 2-0 deficit in the second period and then held Owatonna scoreless in the third period.

After a scoreless overtime, the Express got goals from Nick Widing and John Haeg in the shootout as Owatonna goalie Charles Williams was able to shutdown all of the Bruins shots.

Owatonna took their 2-0, first period lead with goals coming from Willie Faust who scored at 4:02 and Ben Persian scoring at 15:52.

The Bruins stormed back in the second, pressuring Owatonna until Connor Quinn was able to cut the lead to one, scoring at 10:49. Three minutes later Chase McDonald knotted the score at two at 13:35.

For the third and overtime periods Austin outshot Owatonna but couldn’t find their way past Williams who turned away 44 of the 46 shots he faced on the night. Austin would end the night, outshooting the Express 46-36.

Bruins goalie Eamon McAdam saved 33 of the 35 shots he saw in net.
