The Lyle/Pacelli girls basketball team got some help off the bench to get past Mabel/Canton (4-8 overall) in Lyle Friday.
The Athletics (10-4 overall, 10-2 SEC) trailed by nine early in the second half when seventh grader Courtney Walter hit back-to-back threes and came up with a steal that led to a put-back score by Ann Rysavy that put L/P up three. Lauren Reiker added another couple of jumpers to push the lead to eight later in the half.
“We put the pressure on them and worked our way back into it,” L/P head coach Brad Walter said. “Lauren and Courtney really stepped up by hitting some outside shots. That’s the biggest difference on our team this year is that kids can knock down the open look.”
Nyabang Diang had 22 points and 15 rebounds for L/P and Rysavy had 15 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists.
M/C jumped out to a 12-2 lead to open the game.
L/P scoring: Nyabang, Diang, 22; Ann Rysavy, 15; Lauren Reiker, 10; Maggie Lewison, 9; Courtney Walter, 8; Madison Truckenmiller, 4; Dani Felten, 1; free throws: 44 percent (8-for-18)
