An Austin man with a blood alcohol content of .35 was sent to detox Tuesday evening for intentionally pulling a fire alarm at Mandolin Apartments.
Austin police were sent to Mandolin around 6:30 p.m. to deal with Madi Nyigow, 21, who was intoxicated. When they arrived, Nyigow said he wanted to go to jail.
When police asked the man why he wanted to go to jail, he said, “I’ll give you a reason,” and pulled the fire alarm.
Tenants of the apartment building began evacuating and the Austin Fire Department responded to the scene to shut off the alarm.
Nyigow was sent to detox at Fountain Center in Albert Lea after blowing a .35 on the preliminary breath test. He was also cited for intentionally pulling a fire alarm.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said the man may have to reimburse the fire department for the cost of sending a truck and firefighters to the scene.
