It’s a few hours until the start of the new year and the residents of Austin are already thinking ahead. Several Austin residents shared their New Year’s resolutions with the Herald.

Elise Chesley

(My New Year’s resolution is) trying to take care of myself more. Every once in a while I go the opposite direction of doing something else for others. I’m a youth director and I just like to show the youth that it’s not all about them.

(My New Year’s resolution is) to lose my baby weight. I am due in one month, at the end of January. I’m ready for it. I’m going to try to lose weight with the baby. Hopefully in the spring we’ll go on lots of walks.

I haven’t thought of one yet. You kind of always say I’m going to do start doing this, or start doing that. I don’t really set myself up for failure. I look at it one day at a time. Today’s a good day.

Shelly Nelson

I haven’t had any New Year’s resolutions. I’ve never been one to plan any. I guess just to have a healthy life.

Lorraine Brown

I’m going to ride my stationary bike for 20 minutes every day. Now whether I do it or not, that’s another thing.

Karen Rodriguez

(My New Year’s resolution is) to work a lot. I need money for college. I want to be a registered nurse. I guess to lose weight too, and stay close to home.

Samantha Smith

Honestly, I think mine would be to get into the Scripture more, and probably to get a bit more homework done, I suppose. I’m a bit of a lollygagger when it comes to that sort of stuff.

Caitlin Mayr

I plan on joining the Red Cross’s disaster relief efforts. I guess in a disaster they need as many people as they can get. I think instead of living my life for myself it’d be better to join the cause, have some meaning.

Sierra Mayr

I guess my New Year’s resolution is just to live life better around what I am. Just to have better relationships, get better grades, just to get a little bit better with everything and be a better person as a whole.
