HAYFIELD — The Vikings boys basketball team has learned to trust in each other so far this season, and it’s led to them winning their first three games.
Hayfield had four players score in double figures in a 65-50 win over Triton (0-1 overall) Friday as the Vikings set the tone early in a 13-0 run that saw four different players score in the rally.
“Everybody’s willing to pass the ball to everybody and there’s no selfishness whatsoever,” said Brady Kramer, who had 12 points and five rebounds. “It’s a lot of fun.”

That early rally put Hayfield up 20-6 with 8:56 left in the first half, but the Cobras scored eight straight early in the second half to get within 33-27 with 14:50 left in the game.
From that point Bobbie Stephens hit a baseline three-pointer on a dish from Kramer to trigger a 11-0 Hayfield run that saw the Vikings put the game away.
Stephens, who finished with 14 points and five rebounds, benefited from Hayfield’s pass-happy offense as he hit four threes on the night.
“It’s basically a team effort all of the time, it’s a lot different than past years where we’ve had one or two big scorers,” Stephens said. “Now we have at least three or four people scoring double digits every game.”
Hayfield (3-0 overall) also got solid efforts from Tyler Krekling, who had 11 points and six rebounds, Cole Kruger, who had five points, five assists and four rebounds, and Brady Stevens, who had 10 points.
Senior forward Tyler Anderson also made a difference as he finished with six points and two blocks off the bench. Anderson converted a put-back to make it 16-6 early in the game and he hit a short jumper to make it 38-27 in the second half.
“He’s been down on himself because he’s missed some easy shots in the first two games,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “I told him after the Pine Island game that we’re going to need him and he just has to shoot with confidence. He did that tonight and that’s good for him.”
Hayfield was able to get out and run for most of the night as they controlled the boards with a 33-27 advantage against a physical Triton team.
“We’ve done that the first few games,” Pack said of his team’s rebounding. “We’re not overly tall but we’re athletic and our guards should be able to rebound and we’ve done that so far. We really contained those guys on the offensive glass.”
Logan Spitzack supplied most of Triton’s offense with 21 points and nine rebounds.
