Steven Byron Mildenstein, 63

Steven Byron Mildenstein, 63, of rural Grand Meadow, died Friday night, Dec. 10, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
He was born May 13, 1947, to Floyd W. and Emma (Jicha) Mildenstein in Lyle, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1965.
He married Carol Borcherding on Nov. 14, 1972, in Rochester. He earned his degree as a building utilities mechanic from Rochester Technical College in 1990.
Steve worked in general services at Mayo Clinic for 12 years. The couple moved to Chandler, Arizona for a couple of years and then returned to Rochester. Carol died in 1994. After working for Value Mart Marine in Racine, now Insul Seal, for several years, Steve took early retirement. He moved to a farm near Grand Meadow three years ago.
A former member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, he enjoyed summers at Cass Lake for more than 20 years, fishing and gardening.
Steven is survived by two sons, Brian (Noelle) Mildenstein, Burnsville and Brett Mildenstein, Rochester; three grandchildren: Braden, Shae and Ashlyn; two sisters, Janet Christianson, Hayfield and Ruth Nelson, St. Paul and sister-in-law, Ida Mildenstein, Albert Lea.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol in 1994; his parents; brothers: William, Robert, Thomas, Larry, David and James and brother-in-law, Bob Christianson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service.
