Serife Cakmar, age 88

Serife Cakmar, age 88, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester Sunday, December 5, 2010. She was born May 10, 1922 to Sakir and Azime Salbasi in Devrek, Turkey. She married Bedrettin Cakmar on August 28, 1941 in Istanbul. Serife was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining friends and family and traveling. During her lifetime, Serife made her home in Turkey, Germany and the United States.

Survivors include her children, Oktay and Filiz Cakmar of El Paso, Texas; Iclal and John Buckles of Austin, Minnesota; Aydin and Anne Cakmar of Melbourne Australia; Ferda and Sakin Aksan of Rochester, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Derya Cakmar, Marc and Alex Rayman, Jonathan Buckles, Lutfiye and Rehana Aksan, Jessica and Lawrence Cakmar; two great grandchildren, Elijah and Zoe Rayman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bedrettin; her parents, Sakir and Azime Salbasi; sisters, Fatma Kodaman, Halime Ercan; brother, Mehmet Salbasi.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin with Pastor Glenn Munson officiating. Friends are invited to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin following the graveside service for a time of lunch and fellowship with the family.
