Robert G. Ofstedahl, 87, of Austin, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin.

Robert Ofstedahl

Bob was born on Sept. 14, 1923, in Cresco, Iowa to Norman and Helen (Wheeler) Ofstedahl. On March 19, 1944, Bob married Gladys Proffitt in Austin.

Bob, though small in stature, was a giant of a man -loving, compassionate and never complaining. He was a true follower of Christ; his faith never waivered. Having to deal with so many physical ailments, he loved life, when most of us would have given up. He brought joy to everyone with whom he came in contact. His children think he was the best dad ever, and his grandchildren, the best grandfather ever. He was proud to have been a Hormel worker providing for his family. He loved old cars, classical music and most of all, family get-togethers. By his words and actions he instilled in others a desire to be a better person. He left us all with huge shoes to fill on how to be the best person you can be. We love you dad; what a wonderful guy you were!

Robert is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, David & Deanna Ofstedahl, Austin; Gary & Linda Ofstedahl, Austin; daughters and sons-in-law: Kathleen & Ronald Howard, Austin; Janice & Thomas Lorimor, Plainview; Karen & Richard “Smokey” Carlson, Austin; honorary adopted son, John Ngo, San Leandro, CA; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; sisters: Norma Jean “Butch”, Sam Farrand, Shirley Bischoff and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; daughter-in-law, Cindy and grandson, Justin.
