Packer boys drop season opener to Cedar Falls, Iowa

The Austin boys basketball team opened its season with a 75-64 loss to Cedar Falls, Iowa in Packer Gym Saturday.

The Packers (0-1 overall) had 31 turnovers, but they were close until Cedar Falls closed the first half by scoring 14 straight points.

Austin also forced 28 turnovers on the defensive end.

“The ball was flying around and it was a really fast pace,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said. “I thought we did a lot of good things at times, and we’ll get better.”

Matt Duren led Austin with 16 points, freshman point guard Zach Wessels scored 12 points in his varsity debut, Joe Aase had 14 points and eight rebounds and Tom Aase had 11 points and nine rebounds.
