Maynard Green

Maynard Green, age 92 of Grand Meadow died Friday Dec. 17, 2010, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center.

He was born Oct. 31, 1918, on a farm near Sargeant to Theodor and Emma (Wieland) Green. In his younger years he lived on his grandparents farm near Stewartville and went to country schools. He was baptized at Bear Creek Lutheran Church, and was confirmed at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church both in rural Grand Meadow. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1936. In high school Maynard played on the football team that went undefeated for four years. In 1947 he was united in marriage to Amy Jensen at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. He farmed with his father for 30 years northeast of Grand Meadow, when his father retired Maynard and Amy moved in to Grand Meadow and he went to work for IBM in Rochester.

Maynard had many hobbies, he liked music, singing and playing the guitar. He sang in many amateur contest around the country and was chosen to go to Chicago to sing. He sang in a quartet that sang for many funerals around the Grand Meadow area. Maynard enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping he was also very interested in rocks, gems, minerals and arrowheads. He made pendants, necklaces, rings, belt buckles and bolo ties.

Maynard was also credited with discovering the Indian quarry 1 1/2 miles north of Grand Meadow. It is now on the Archeological Conservancy so it will never be destroyed.

Maynard is survived by his wife, Amy and daughter, Judy Green both of Grand Meadow and a daughter Joanne (David) Olson of Sun City, Ariz. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lester. Condolences may be left at www.hindtfuneralhomes.com

Funeral services for Maynardwill be held 11 a.m. Monday Dec. 20, 2010, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with the Rev Ann Siverling officiating. Burial will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the service at the church.
