The Austin boys hockey team opened its season with a 5-3 loss to Luverne in Riverside Arena Saturday.
The Packers (0-1 overall) jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first period but fell behind 4-2 in the second as Luverne out-shot them 12-3 in the second period.
“We had a couple of letdowns and a few penalties,” Austin head coach Tim Peterson said. “It’s tough to create offense when you’re trying to kill penalties.”
Josh Hart, Travis Stephens and Ethan Larson all scored goals for the Packers. Marcus Stoulil, Hart, Larson and Josh Detwiler all had assists.
