The Austin wrestling team used eight of their wrestlers as it took 12th out of 13 teams in the Dick Shiels Invite at Faribault Saturday.

The Packers had some of their younger wrestlers compete in the JV tournament to get some confidence and experience against other young wrestlers.

“We had a few spots open due to illness and injury,” Austin head coach Bill Kinney said. “Our placement at this tournament in the team race means very little to us at this point. We are trying to improve each individual wrestler, and in that regard we took positive steps forward today.”

The Packers had four placewinners as Devon Felten took third at 103, Erick Power took fourth at 119, Thomas Herrera took fourth at heavywieght and Braeden Eggum took fifth at 119.

Blooming Prairie and Grand Meadow/LeRoy/Ostrander/Kingsland tied for 10th in the tournament and Apple Valley took first.
