Donald Morris “Gus” Nordine, 80, of Faribault, formerly of Blooming Prairie, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault.

Born on June 10, 1930, in Dassel, to Ernest and Violet (Thompson) Nordine. He grew up in northern Minnesota and joined the Navy at age 17. He married Edeltraud Weiss in July of 1963, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They later divorced. Gus raised his family in Blooming Prairie from 1965 to 2005. He worked for the Milwaukee and Soo Line Railroad. A member of the V.F.W. and the Masons, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Gus took delight in spending time with his grandchildren, where they were given many privileges. He spent his last seven years at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault.

He is survived by his children, Patricia (Peter) Ulrich of Faribault and Donald (Peggy) Nordine, Jr. of Rochester; five grandchildren: Holly (Renon, Jr.), Cory, Kristine, Isaiah, and Maya; one great-grandchild, Renon, III; sisters: Doris Esplan and Lois (Cecil) Friesner, both of Blooming Prairie; Jacki (Robert) Harris of Texas; Annette (Mike) Jaros of Duluth; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lawrence and two nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Charles Leonard officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday evening, Dec. 27, 2010, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date.
