Families with little ones can enjoy the Christmas season at the Community Learning Center in Austin this Thursday.

The second annual Santa Workshop will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 16, where families with children from birth age up to 7-years-old can make crafts, buy inexpensive presents and meet Santa.

“It is, really, just a fun evening,” said Amy Baskin, the district’s director of community education.

The event is free and open to the community, something which the CLC can’t always do because of logistical issues and finances. Families can enjoy making a decorated snack together as well as meet and take pictures of Santa. Kids can shop for presents for their siblings and other family members from a wide range of gifts which cost anything from a quarter to $5. They can also make crafts for mom and dad to give them as Christmas gifts, too.

While the kids are busy, parents can shop for books and other things for their kids, as well as network with other parents and talk with CLC staff.

Although many of the families which participate in CLC early childhood services are low income, this event provides an opportunity to get out and have fun.

“This one we open up to the public, because there’s not a lot of opportunities for families with kids that small,” Baskin said.
