Rita Jane Wagner, 77, died Nov. 3, 2010 in Austin.
Her birthplace was reported to be Des Moines, IA, but never confirmed. Rita spent her youth in Chicago, attended Aquinas Dominican High School there, and attended the College of St. Theresa in Winona.
Rita was known for her fabulous cooking and her incredible sense of style. She loved to entertain her family, friends and countless newcomers in the Austin community.
She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, served on the school board, catholic school foundation director, lector and eucharistic minister. Rita and Joe were co-founders of the Joseph Construction Company in 1965 and were very involved in the community.
Rita is survived by her husband, Joe; two sons and a daughter: Carter (Meg) of Austin; Joey (Connie) of Los Angeles, CA; Liz (Mark Myran) of Eagan; daughter-in-law, Kim of Foothills Ranch, CA; 13 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Katie Carter and roughly one million Wagners.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Frank Carter; brother, Tom and son, Peter. Rita was the matriarch of the family and God put her on this earth to serve other people — she will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Friday (Rosary at 7 p.m.) at Mayer Funeral Home Holy Mass will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 at St. Augustine Church.
Memorials are preferred to the ALS Foundation.
