MINNEAPOLIS — The Austin Packers No. 7-seeded 200-yard medley relay team placed sixth Saturday at the Class A state swim meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
The relay team, which ended a two-year run together, was made up of seniors Averi Splinter, Kelli Bednar and Brooke Johnson, and sophomore Helen Heimark finished in 1 minute and 53.36 seconds.
“We knew going in that this would be the last time we ever raced together,” Johnson said. “We all just did really good.”
Splinter, who swam the third leg of the race, said the team was happy with the way it ended.
They stayed consistent,” Austin head coach Lynn Gulbrandson said. “It’s hard to come back the next day and swim as fast as they did. They really came together.”
Splinter finished 14th in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.41. Her split times were 28.82 and 32.84 seconds, and she edged Riele Short, of the Blake School, by 9/100 of a second.
Johnson finished 16 in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.13.
