Kenneth Alvin Hatteberg, 84, of Blooming Prairie passed away on Nov. 14, 2010 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home.

Kenneth was born on Feb. 26, 1926 to Knute and Alma (Lundy) Hatteberg in Britt, Iowa.

He was joined in marriage with Lou Jeanne Patterson on June 21, 1949 in Jolly, Iowa. Together they had eight children. They moved to Minnesota in the early 1950’s. Kenneth ran a dairy and crop farm for 40-plus years. After he sold the cows, he was a custodian at Blooming Prairie High School as well as being a bus driver for many years. The school was a very important part of his life. He enjoyed attending all the activities of his own family, as well as being part of all school activities. He was an avid sports fan.

Lou Jeanne passed away in 1975 and he married Luella Kahnke on March 25, 1977. Together they made their home in Blooming Prairie. Kenneth served in the Air Force during World War II and was a member of the Hayfield American Legion, also a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Waltham.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Luella of Blooming Prairie; children: Carole (Wayne) Hertle, Kenyon; Deane Hatteberg, LaCrosse, Wis.; Merlyn Hatteberg, Rochester; Denise Hatteberg, Stewartville; Bruce (Maureen) Hatteberg, Shoreview; Jeanette (Marty) Evans, Southport, N.C.; David (Nancy) Kahnke, Ellendale; Kurt (Suzan) Hatteberg, Amherst, Colo.; Barry Hatteberg, Blooming Prairie; Becky (Jeff) Severtson, Blooming Prairie; grandchildren: Joshua Hertle, Zachary Hertle, Leah (Mike) Aitkin, Ryan Hatteberg (Crystal Fortin), Emily Kahnke, Theresa (Travis) Myers, Karl (Katie) Hatteberg, Jared (Margaret) Hatteberg, Haley Severtson (Tyler Pederson), Kyle Severtson; great- grandchildren: Hannah Aitkin, Andrew Aitkin, Riley Kahnke, Caleb Myers, Cara Myers; sisters-in-law: Dorothy (Vern) Hatteberg, Dorothy (Tilbert) Hatteberg, Helen (Marvin) Hatteberg, Meryl Nuszloch and brother-in-law, Irvin Jr. (Kathy) Jensen.

Kenneth was preceeded in death by his parents, first wife and brothers.

Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church of Waltham with Pastor Jeffrey Kuddes officiating and military rites by the Hayfield American Legion 330. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 4-8 p.m. at Worlein Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will take place at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church of Waltham, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
