Members of the United Way held the fourth annual community outerwear drive for kids Monday at the Oakpark Mall.
Each year the mall offers a free, vacant space to the United Way, so it can donate all types of winter clothing to area children. This year, United Way received 385 requests for clothing, according to Chris Grev, marketing coordinator for the Mower County United Way. Every coat donated to the cause was given away, and more coats were bought with money previously donated.
The drive helps all of those within the county, and any leftover coats are given to local schools.
“Our goal is to make sure every kid who needs one has one.,” Grev said. “We can’t do it without the donations or financial contributions.”
Members mentioned that local church members have also knitted hats, scarves and mittens for the cause.
