Scott Jeffrey Phelps, 49 of Stewartville, died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010.

Scott Jeffrey Phelps

He was born June 28, 1961 at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin to Dale R. and Mary (Ryther) Phelps. After his graduation from Waseca High School in 1979, he went into the Army. A proud member of the US Army, he met and married his special friend, Chong Suk, in 1984 while serving in Korea. They were divorced in 1990. Scott was particularly proud of the military medals he earned over the course of his deployment. He was also stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he resided mainly in the Rochester and Austin areas. Scotty was a big, warm-hearted man who loved motorcycles, children and animals, especially eagles. He was a very caring and compassionate soul who would do anything for anyone in need. Scotty looked the part of the big and burly biker; yet he had the heart of a teddy bear. A member of Prairie Wind Church and Ministries, he will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his parents, Mary Guse and Dale Phelps; siblings: Leslie (Marty) Smith; Jodi (Robert) Huss; Daniel Guse; “special” aunt and uncle Roger and Peggy (Ryther) Kraft; William and Bonnie Ryther; other aunts and uncles, Lyle and Ilene Phelps, Lois Jamie and Genelle Reck; nephews, one niece and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Stafford and Marion Phelps and maternal grandparents, Arthur and Lois Ryther.
