Pacelli Walk-A-thon targets $30k

More than 360 kids ran rampant in downtown Austin Friday morning.
Every Pacelli Catholic School student was out of class to participate in the annual Pacelli Walk-A-Thon, a tradition for the Catholic school that stretches back as far as anyone can remember. This year’s annual fundraising walk was different, however, as all Pacelli students and volunteers picked up trash and recycling in the downtown area, eventually finishing up at Mill Pond.
“It’s quite an undertaking for 300 plus students to walk around the downtown area, the Mill Pond area, to pick up trash,” said Holli Mayer, Pacelli’s director of development. “Especially after the recent flooding.”
The walk is part of Pacelli’s fundraising efforts and usually brings in quite a formidable sum. Last year’s walk raised more than $27,000. This year, the school hopes to raise $30,000 or more from parishioners and students, who’ve been busy taking pledges.
While the final tally won’t be known until next week, students at Pacelli have something to look forward to if they met their goal: Principal Mary Holtorf will let the top two classes spray her hair green.
