Margaret L. “Lucille” Brecht, 83, of Austin, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Lucille was born July 20, 1927 in Tracy, to Louis and Margaret (O’Hearn) Brecht. She earned her B.S. and M.S. in Education from Mankato State University. Lucille went on the teach Elementary Education in Morgan, Redwood Falls, Pipestone, Northfield and Austin. She was empolyed by the Austin School District for 32 years. She was a member of the N.E.A., AAREA, St. Augustine Catholic Church and WCCW.

Lucille enjoyed traveling and collecting paper weights. She volunteered at the Philomathian Religious Book and Gift Store and Sacred Heart Auxiliary.

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Claire (Cecilia) Carlson, Fredericksburg, VA; Lucy Carlson, Lake Mills, IA; Ann Marie (Orlo) Bjerk, Mesa, AZ; Don (Ann Marie) Carlson, Toledo, OH; Thomas (Suzanne) Brecht, Cleveland, AL; and great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sister; nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 5 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-7 p.m. and also 30 minutes prior to services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Tracy.
