Kenneth Luverne Apold, 96, of Austin, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center.
Ken was born April 11, 1914 in Austin to John and Christina Apold. He grew up in Austin. On Nov. 24, 1934 he married Melvina Blowers in Austin. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1983.
Ken had a long working career with the Hormel Company. He enjoyed wood-working and being with his family and friends. Ken was a member of St. Augustine Church and the Eagles Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Deanna Arndt, Austin; sons: Jim (Carole) Apold, Austin; Bill (Polly) Apold, Austin; daughter-in-law, Sue Apold, Austin; special friend, June Kramer; 10 grandchildren: Todd (Carrie) Arndt; Brenda (Chris) Engen; Edie (Don) Stier; Deidre (Jeff) Slowinski; Heidi Krivanek; Brad (Karen) Apold; Kenneth (Andra) Arndt; Brett (Robin) Apold; Chad Apold; Shannon Apold; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his son, Dale Apold; son-in-law, Emil Arndt Jr.; parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday and also one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Monday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The casket bearers will be Brett Apold, Todd Arndt, Kenneth Arndt, Brad Apold, Chad Apold, and Shannon Apold.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Augustine Catholic Church or the Hormel Institute for Cancer Research.
