Helen Serene Marie “Lee” Planz, 79 of Austin, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 3, 2010 at Austin Medical Center.

She was born July 1, 1931 to Howard and Martha (Skaug) Olson in Austin, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1949. Helen married Eugene “Andy” Anderson, and they were later divorced. She lived in Brownsdale until 1972 when she moved to Austin. She worked at Cedar One as a childcare supervisor. On Sept.19, 1992, she married Hugo Planz at Fellowship United Methodist Church where she was a member. A people person, Helen enjoyed having coffee with people and loved entertaining, cooking, playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren and golfing. She had two holes in one.

Helen is survived by her husband, Hugo of Austin; daughter, Dawn (Tom) Morehouse of Austin; son, Steven Anderson of Austin; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four stepchildren: Lynda (Joseph) Hodges of Austin; Myrna Kruckeberg of Austin; Steven (Bobbie) Planz of Springfield, MO and Debra (Pat) Perkins of New Brighton; six step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Austin with The Reverend Patricia Toschak officiating. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery at a later date. Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, is in charge of arrangements.
