Barbara Oline Peterson, 77

Barbara Oline Peterson, 77, beloved wife, mother and grandmother was surrounded by her family at home as she passed into heaven on Oct. 17, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer.

Barbara Oline Peterson was born on April 5, 1933, in Dodge County to Herman and Esther Gulbransen. She was baptized and confirmed at West St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Oslo. She attended country school at the Gilderhus School House and later graduated from Kasson High School in 1950. Barbara was employed as secretary at the Vernon Creamery until 1952. On Aug. 31, 1952, she was united in marriage to Coler E. Peterson. They took up farming in rural Hayfield. In 1954, they lived a short time in El Paso, TX, while Coler served in the Army. From 1960-1970 Coler and Barbara operated the Hayfield Standard Service Station. She continued as a house wife and mother until 1976, when she began employment at the Midway Motor Lodge in Rochester, where she later retired. Barbara was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church women’s groups. Barbara was a life-time avid bowler. She enjoyed fishing in the BWCA at Ely. Barbara enjoyed her flower gardens and the apple orchard that she and Coler designed. She was also a volunteer at the Channel One Food Shelf in Dodge Center and an avid pet lover. Most of all she cherished her family.

Barbara is survived by five children: Steven (Rose) Peterson; Jeffrey L. Peterson; Julie (Dan) Holst; Lisa (David) Olson; Mark (Marie) Peterson; one brother, Orlyn Gulbransen; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one grandchild.

Funeral service for Barbara Oline Peterson will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 1st Street SE, Hayfield, with Reverend Paul Hauschild officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd Street NW, Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
