Rebecca “Becky” E. Medd, age 83

Rebecca “Becky” E. Medd, age 83 of Albert Lea, died suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 at her home.
Rebecca was born Oct. 24, 1926 in Riceland Township, Freeborn County, to Martin and Marvyle (Stokker) Lysne. Rebecca was baptized and confirmed at OaklandLutheran Church. She lived in the Hollandale area most of her life, moving to Albert Lea in Aug. of 2003. She graduated from Albert Lea High School and Naeve Hospital School of Nursing. Rebecca married Charles F. Medd on Nov. 13, 1949 at Oakland Lutheran Church. She was a member of East Freeborn Lutheran Church and was active in the ladies aid (where she had been president several times), the church circles, altar guild, and was coordinator of the church quilting group. She also belonged to the Naeve Nurses Club and Sons of Norway. Rebecca assisted on the farm seeing that the milk parlor was always clean. She enjoyed quilting, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, sewing, and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed taking bus trips with the Senior Citizens and having coffee with her friends and neighbors. Rebecca was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Whenever there was a function she attended and enjoyed bringing food.
Rebecca is survived by her three children: Karen K. (Donald) Austinson of Clarks
Grove; David C. (Kathy) Medd of Maple Island; and Daniel J. (Lisa) Medd of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Lisa (Michael) Mathison and their children: Dakota, Dylan and Abigail; Jay (Nicole) Austinson and their children Hanna and Haley; Jon (Roxie) Medd and their child Logan; Laurie (Allan) Greibrok and their children Katelyn and Braden; deceased grandson, Joshua Medd’s daughter, McKenzie Lynn Medd, Jackie Medd and special friend Anthony and their child Drea; Danielle (Damian) Bure and their children Tyler, Desmond, Ryleigh and Laynie; and Joshua Krowiorz; sisters: Alice (Albert) Friedrich of Williamsburg, Virginia. Grace (Gerald)Skaar of Albert Lea, and Ruby Armstrong of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brother, Maurice (Henrietta) Lysne of Hayward; brothers-in-law: HaroldLunde of Bowling Green, Ohio, Palmer Thompson of Albert Lea, and Robert (Louise) Medd of Hollandale; sister-in-law, Harriet Kraay of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews.
Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Marvyle Lysne; Husband,
Charles Medd; grandchildren: Joshua, Katie and Wyatt Medd; sisters: Edith Guritz,
Marjorie Thompson, Doris Wayne, Sarah Lunde, Rachel Lysne; and brothers-in-law:
Ralph Kraay and Johnny Guritz..
Funeral service will be held at10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at East Freeborn Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend Matthew Griggs will officiate. Interment will be at East Freeborn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday Sept. 2, 2010 at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to East Freeborn Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
