Pamela Marie (Schammel) Sheely, 53 died peacefully at home the evening of Saturday, Sept. 4 surround by her family following a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born Nov. 24, 1956 to Arthur and Joanne Schammel in Austin. She graduated from Austin High School in 1975 and attended Austin Vocational and Technical college. She first worked at the Austin Country Club, then at Sterling State Bank, before finally working 32 years with Mower County Human Services, while also helping to run the family farm. She was married to Doug Sheely on June 23, 1979 at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Brownsdale. She enjoyed outdoor activities like gardening, snowmobiling, taking walks, and fishing. As a young girl she also loved to raise horses and dogs for show. Most of all she loved following the school and extracurricular activities of her two children and enjoyed the companionship of the family dog, Mandy.

She is survived by her husband, Doug; her two children, Mark and Jennifer; her father, Arthur; her sister, Nancy (Jerry) VanBuskirk, and their children, Andrea (Ben) Alexander, Jessica (Troy) Hanson, and Michael VanBuskirk (special friend, Brooke Hendrickson); her father-in-law, Luverne Sheely; her brother-in-law, Brad (Bridget) Sheely; her sister-in-law, JoAnn Workman; two nephews: Joe and Ben Sheely; two great nieces: Aviana and Brielle Alexander ; great-nephew, Landon Hanson; and Richard Stevens

She is preceded in death by her mother, Joanne Schammel; and her mother-in-law, Catherine Sheely.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Brownsdale with Father Gregory Parrott officiating. There will be a 7p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Rose Creek.
