Lyle Steinbeck, age 94, of Adams, formerly of Austin, passed away on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams.
Lyle Charles Steinbeck was born on May 7, 1916, in Fenton, IA, the son of Charles and Anna Marie (Boevers) Steinbeck. As a young boy, Lyle attended school in Fenton and was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Fenton.
Lyle had a love of farming and as a young man; he helped area farmers working the land with teams of horses. In 1948, Lyle moved to northern Minnesota where he bought a farm with the aspiration of becoming a logger. After a couple of years, Lyle returned home to the Fairmont area where he worked on various farms before purchasing his farm near Lansing. In 1998, Lyle had his farm sale and moved to Austin.
Lyle was a hard working man who loved the outdoors and working with his hands. Working the land over the years with numerous teams of horses brought him great joy and he continued that love of horses by raising draft horses and providing hay rides in the summer and sleigh rides in the winter. He loved working with wood and sawing his own boards from the trees he cut down. Lyle looked forward to attending farm auctions and area threshing bees. Anything to do with farming was interesting to Lyle and in the late summer he could be found at a county fair, usually in the draft horse section. His sense of humor and love of life will be greatly missed by all those that cherished his friendship.
Lyle is survived by John Planting of Fairmont, Lyle(Marlene)Planting of New Hope; Don (Julie) Planting of Fairmont,; Naomi (Norman)Schmidt of Albert Lea; Janice (John)Graham of Stanchfield, MN, Sue (Wally) Fink of Albert Lea; Peggy (Tom)Newville of Fairmont; and Hazel Planting of Osakas; his nieces and nephews, as well as many other extended family and friends.
