Grand Meadow senior quarterback Caleb Leichtnam started they year off with a bang as he led his squad to a 41-8 win in Glenville/Emmons in a football opener Thursday.

Leichtnam racked up a career-high 259 yards on the ground and scored five times as the Superlarks (1-0 overall) led 32-0 at the break.

“Caleb looked good, but it hurt us to have Perry Stejskal limited with an injury,” GM head coach Gary Sloan said. “We plan on Stejskal being a big part of our offense when he’s healthy. We were pretty limited tonight and we’ve got a lot of stuff to fine tune.”

GM controlled the game early, but its starters played through the third quarter, where G/E (0-1 overall) outscored them 8-0.

“I thought we played pretty well in the first half, but not so well in the third,” Sloan said.
