Anna B. Hillson, 93

Anna Blanche Hillson, 93 of Blooming Prairie, died Friday morning, Sept. 10, 2010 at Austin Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 28, 1916 to Anton and Emily (Kasper) Kubista in Steele County, where she grew up and attended country school. She lived with families and helped with the children and housework while attending Blooming Prairie High School. Anna graduated in 1935 and completed teacher’s training at Owatonna Normal School for a year before teaching in Steele County Country Schools from 1937 until 1940. She married Ernest Hillson on Aug. 31, 1940 in Austin.

They both worked hard to make the farm a success. After 36 years living on the farm they moved to a house in Blooming Prairie.

Anna was a member of First Lutheran Church, serving as a chairperson for Ladies Aide in her younger years and attending women’s circle. Anna was also a gardener, especially enjoying her violets and dahlias. She embroidered dish towels, did canning and baking, enjoyed reading and playing endless games and visiting with the four grandchildren. Ernest passed away Feb. 14, 1986. Anna moved to Heather Haus in 1996 where she lived until 2009 when she moved to Prairie Manor.

She is survived by two daughters: Karen (Donald) Ahlstrom of Mankato and Eileen (Robert) Anderson of Rochester; four grandchildren: Sonja (David) Venberg of Chaska; Brian (Akiko) Ahlstrom of Akita, Japan; Dean (Michelle) Anderson of Byron; Greg Anderson of Rochester; four great-grandchildren: Kaela and Kyle Venberg; Alicia and Jonah Ahlstrom. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; her parents; siblings: Anton Kubista, Walter Kubista, Mabel Hansen, George Kubista, Mary Meixner Kemmenson, William Kubista, Robert Kubista, Emily Engler and Roman Kubista.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastors Heidi Heimgartner and Charles Leonard officiating. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church the day of the service. Worlein-Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
