Virginia Maxine Hatfield, 73

Virginia Maxine Hatfield, 73, of Austin, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 21, 2010, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester. She was born on Aug. 14, 1937 in Humboldt, S.D. to Lester and Ella (Letsche) Boekhoff. Her parents moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. where she graduated from Washington High School in 1955. In 1957 she married DuWayne Savoie in Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple had four children and later divorced.
With her family, Virginia operated Bonanza Beach Resort in Perham for several years. She worked twelve years for Scotsman Ice Machines in Albert Lea. In 1986, Virginia was united in marriage to Ronald Hatfield and moved to Austin. She worked several years for Austin Medical Center and retired in 2003. A member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Virginia enjoyed her flowers, walking, traveling and enjoying the warmth of wintering in southern Texas and Arizona.
Survivors include her husband, Ron; daughter, Lori (Andy) Rollag of Gary; three sons, Kevin (Cindy) Savoie of Scribner, Neb.; Darrin (Julie) Savoie of Osakis; Scott (LeAnn Lange) Savoie of Lake Mills, Iowa; Tamra (Patrick) Wehner of Blooming Prairie and Nancee (Thomas) Easter of Menomonie, Wis.; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Marilyn (Marv) Heckman of Kearney, Neb. and Charleen Oakland of Smith Station, Ala. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother in law.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin with The Reverend Brian Krueger officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday evening at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
