Robert J. Schupp, 93

Robert “Jerry” Jerome Schupp, 93, of Boise, Idaho died on Aug. 3, 2010.
Robert was born on Sept. 21, 1918 and grew up in Austin. Robert graduated from Austin Senior High School where he enjoyed participating in sports playing his baritone horn. He carried this joy throughout his life playing in eight separate bands after graduating from high school, his favorite being A Gay 90’s Band.
After graduation Robert joined the Army for a short time before seeing a sign advertising an opportunity to join the Air Force. This is where Robert would discover one of his true loves, flying. Robert was a B-24 fighter pilot in World War II, stationed in Nova Scotia.
Robert’s main assignment was patrolling the east coast for Nazi submarines along with other B-24 fighter pilots and crews. Robert remained in the Air Force Reserves for many years after retiring from the service.
Robert spent the remainder of his working life in his home town of Austin, Minnesota where he worked as a Master Electrician at Hormel Packing Company for approximately fifteen years, and finished up his career working with the Austin Telephone Company for approximately fourteen years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Jewel Schupp. Bob and Jewel had a classic love story meeting by happenstance at the Veteran’s Administration Entertainment Center in Fort Snelling. Bob and Jewel pursued their relationship shortly after this encounter and were married in 1974, resulting in 36 wonderful years of marriage. They lived in the Boise Valley area for twenty five years.
Jewel and Robert had a wonderful and active life together. They were part of several organizations including the Experimental Aircraft Club, the Minnesota Hiking Club, and the Good Sam Travel Club.
One of Jewel’s fondest memories of their life together was leading an eleven day trip through the British/American Virgin Islands with the Good Sam Travel Club. Robert owned his own air craft so he and Jewel could fly whenever they wished.
Robert is also survived by daughter Marjorie J. Butts and her husband Michael, his son Robert J. Schupp Jr., a number grandchildren and a few great grandchildren. Robert is proceeded in death by his son, Michael D. Schupp.
Robert will be truly missed by his friends and family. Graveside services will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise on Monday, Aug 16, 2010 at 1 p.m.
