Herbert Graff, 93

Herbert Graff, 93, of Austin, died Saturday morning, July 31, 2010, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.

He was born Dec. 18, 1916, to Ervin and Marie Louise (Rieken) Graff. He grew up in Dexter. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church by Rev. W. Milbrath and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dexter by Rev. Schroeder. On June 17, 1939, he married Mona May McDermott at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin. Herbert was employed at Hormel Foods for 47 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and of the V.F.W. Herbert served his country in the 42nd Rainbow Division from 1943 – 1946 in the European Theatre.

Survivors include their children, Judy Arthun, of Bloomington, and Rodney (Patricia) Graff, of St. Paul; five grandchildren, Kathy Arthun, Shelley (Mark Kremer), Amy (William Lorton), Ryan and Randy Graff; brother, Vernon Graff; sister-in-law, Gloria Graff; four great-grandchildren, Chad and Cady Kremer, Taylor Graff and Paige Lorton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mona, in October 2009; an infant daughter, Marcia May; and four brothers, Louis, Chester, Milton and Marvin; and one sister, Lorraine Wright.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at St. Johns’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Ogilvie officiating.  Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Donations to be sent to Prairie Manor Care Center. American Legion Post No. 91 will be in charge of military rites.
