Only a slight stir was caused Wednesday when a giant chicken wandered through the Austin Public Library.

Austin Rotary Club Chair Eric Connett was behind the feathers, decked out in a chicken suit to publicize the upcoming 35th Annual Austin Rotary Club Chicken and Corn Feed.

The annual fundraiser takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Edward’s Corcoran Center, 2001 Second Ave. NW. It includes an old-fashioned fried chicken dinner — complete with Honeytree Farm sweet corn, salad, dessert and a beverage.

“The public gets a great dinner and benefits are felt all year in so many ways. The more chicken and corn tickets we sell, the more we can give back through Rotary Club projects and services. Our goal is to serve over 6,000 dinners,” Connett said.

Proceeds benefit the local Rotary Club’s community projects which include but are not limited to awarding scholarships, hosting exchange students, providing dictionaries to third-graders, supporting Austin Public Schools’ W.O.R.D. (We Oppose and Resist Drugs) program and donating funds to a variety of charitable causes.

The Austin Rotary club is a group of local businessmen and businesswomen dedicated to giving back to the community that supports them. They share time and resources to fund local and global service projects and contribute thousands of dollars annually to scholarships, charitable efforts, service and education projects

Carry-out meals are also available Tuesday via an express line for those orders. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 3 to 10 and free for children under 3 years old. Tickets are available now from Rotary Club members and will be sold at the door Tuesday.
