Post 91 dropped a pair of games to the Rochester Patriots Friday, 5-4 and 9-7 in Rochester.
Post 91 took a 4-3 into the final inning of game one when Mike Tindal scored on a double from Jack Miller, but the Patriots were able to cap the game with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
The teams traded runs for the most part throughout game one. The Patriots held a 2-0 lead through three, but Austin was able to tie the score with a run each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Quinn Yocom scored in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Mark Harber and Joey Swatfager scored when Tindal drew a walk with the bases loaded in the fifth.
Post 91 took the lead, 3-2 in the sixth on a Brady Klingfus double that scored Aaron Geotz.
Rochester tied the game again in their half of the sixth before Miller’s double the very next inning.
Klingfus went the distance for Post 91, giving up 10 hits, striking out four, and walking three.
Tindal was 2 for 3 that included a triple and an RBI.
Rochester 9, Austin 7
In the second game, Post 91 was able to chip away at an early lead throughout to nearly claim a split.
Austin put two runs up on the Patriots in the first inning. Tindal reached on a triple and Harber brought them both in on a two-run homerun, but the Patriots stormed back in the bottom half of the first for four.
Tindal scored again off a Preston Higbe single in the third, but again Rochester answered with two runs for a 6-3 lead.
Rochester added another run in the fourth for a 7-3 lead, which was cut to 7-4 when Harber, who had a double in the inning, eventually scored on an error in the fifth.
But again the Patriots found some insurance with two in the bottom of the fifth for a 9-4 lead.
Austin took a shot at the lead in the top half of the sixth when Luke Mallory’s single scored two and a single by Higbe scored Tindal, but Post 91 couldn’t add more than that.
Yocom took the loss for Post 91 in game two. He gave up six runs on seven hits and went three and a third innings. Swatfager came on in relief and struck out two.
Tindal continued a solid day hitting, going 2 for 3 with a triple while Harber was 3 for 3 including the two-run homer.
Austin was back in Rochester Saturday and depending on the outcome, could host a play-in game Sunday if they win both. Results for the games were unavailable before press time.
